  • This is not a ‘free’ stop over, but it is an absolute gem of one, on the coast near Deal in Kent.
The positives; The coastguard has it’s own gated car park right on the sea front. Literally you park right on the front looking out to sea. Its a lovely little bay. There is also a public carpark next door (no camping signs) with public toilets open 7am-7pm and a little cafe/snack place. (does good bacon baps etc)
Please note: The Coastguard only allow 5 motorhomes/campervans at a time to stop over, so you need to book.
They ask you to book a meal and it’s not cheap but the quality of food and service is worth it. I believe you can pay just to stopover but we’ve never done that. (we’ve stayed twice)
It is situated in a little bay at the bottom of a cliff after following a little twisting road down from the top of the cliff to the bottom, an exciting little journey. No problem for our 6m motorhome and i’ve seen bigger down there as well.
The cliffs block of UK cell net signal so you connect to France – make sure you have roaming on your phone. We also visit the bay for motorhome day trips in summer, parking in the public car park.
Well worth a visit as the lovely location is the great attraction. Plenty of nice walks around. At night there is just the sound of the waves crashing on the beach.
