Motorhome Stopover Club was created by me (John Durkin) a real UK motorhome owner to help other motorhome owners travel more freely, spend less on overnight stays, and discover welcoming places to stop across the UK.

Why Motorhome Stopover Club Exists

Motorhome Stopover Club was created to solve a problem I experienced myself.

Like many motorhome owners, I had wanted a motorhome for years. When I finally became able to buy one, I loved the freedom it gave me. Being able to travel, explore new places, and wake up somewhere different felt like exactly what motorhoming should be about.

At first, I used campsites around the UK and often paid around £25 a night inc hookup. Then, after Covid, prices started rising heavily. Many campsites became £30, £40, £50 or even more per night. For anyone wanting to travel regularly, those costs soon add up.

One of the biggest moments for me was travelling in Scotland which welcomes Motorhome Owners with open arms. I experienced a different kind of freedom there, where it was often much easier to find places to stop and enjoy the journey without feeling tied to expensive overnight campsite stays. In England & Wales, it was not always that simple.

I started speaking to pubs and local businesses and found that many were genuinely welcoming to responsible motorhome owners staying overnight, especially when visitors supported the business by buying food, drinks, or using their facilities respectfully.

That was the start of Motorhome Stopover Club.

Built From Real Experience, Not Just an Idea

I have always been interested in building practical things with technology. At the age of 14, I used to spend days programing code on a ZX Spectrum. Years later, when the internet began opening up opportunities for ordinary people and small businesses, I taught myself how to build websites.

That took time, patience and a lot of trial and error. I went on to run e-commerce websites at a time when online selling in the UK was still very new and even payment processing was not as simple as it is today.

Those early years taught me how powerful a useful website can be when it solves a real problem. They also taught me that a website should be built around the people using it, not just around technology.

After many years away from building online projects, the arrival of better modern tools and artificial intelligence gave me the chance to return to creating something useful. This time, the idea came directly from my own experience as a motorhome owner.

Helping Motorhome Owners Travel for Less

The aim of Motorhome Stopover Club is simple:

To help motorhome owners find affordable, useful and welcoming places to stop across the UK.

MSC includes thousands of UK stopovers, including pubs, farm shops, afforable campsites and other useful places for motorhome travel. The goal is not just to list places on a map, but to make it easier for members to plan trips, discover new areas and reduce the cost of travelling.

One good stopover can save more than the cost of membership. For people who travel regularly, the savings can be significant.

Why Pubs and Local Businesses Matter

Many motorhome owners do not want to stay on large campsites every night. Sometimes they just want somewhere practical, friendly and affordable to stop for the evening. plus get to experience cities, towns and villiges that campsite proximity can’t offer

Pubs and local businesses can be ideal for this. Motorhome owners get somewhere useful to stop, while the business benefits from extra customers. When it works properly, it supports both travellers and local communities.

Responsible motorhome travel is important. Members should always check availability where needed, respect the location, avoid overstaying, keep noise down, leave no mess, and support the business wherever possible.

A Club I Use Myself

Motorhome Stopover Club is not just a website I built and left alone. I use it myself when I travel in my own motorhome.

That matters because the site is built from the point of view of someone who understands what motorhome owners actually need: clear locations, useful details, easy searching, practical information and affordable options.

The club has now been running for around three years and continues to grow. We have a great community of paying members and growing month by month, and the site now includes over 6,500 stopovers and useful motorhome travel locations across the UK.

My Mission

My mission with Motorhome Stopover Club is to help motorhome owners enjoy more freedom across the UK without every trip becoming expensive.

Motorhoming should be about exploring, discovering new places, supporting local businesses and making memories. MSC exists to make that easier, more affordable and more enjoyable.

If the club helps someone take more trips, save money on overnight stays, discover a great pub, visit a new area, or feel more confident planning a journey, then it is doing what it was built to do.

About the Founder

Motorhome Stopover Club was founded by John Durkin, a UK-based motorhome owner with a long-standing interest in technology, websites and practical problem solving.

John created MSC after experiencing the rising cost of overnight motorhome travel and seeing the opportunity for responsible motorhome owners and welcoming local businesses to support each other.

The club is built from real experience, regular use, and a simple belief: motorhome owners should have more affordable ways to explore the UK.
