About the Pub 🍺
The Abbey Inn is a historic 19th-century inn transformed into a cosy, relaxed country pub with rooms, overlooking the impressive ruins of Byland Abbey in North Yorkshire. Originally built by monks in 1845 as a farmhouse using stones from the abbey, the inn became a public house by 1853. It is a Grade-II listed building offering a warm, homely atmosphere with flagstone floors, roaring open fires, and views of the abbey ruins. The inn is run by Tommy Banks, owner of Michelin-starred restaurants Roots York and The Black Swan at Oldstead, with much of the produce supplied from the Banks family farm.
