Anchor Inn Salterforth Motorhome Stopover Information
About the Pub 🍺
The Anchor Inn in Salterforth is a historic canal-side pub dating back to around 1655, originally called the Travellers Rest. It features two levels of cellars — a rarity for pubs — with the original cellar now permanently flooded due to the nearby Leeds and Liverpool Canal built in the 1790s. The pub has retained much of its old charm, including a door to a short section of the original packhorse road used by travellers centuries ago. Inside, visitors can explore stalactites and stalagmites formed by water seeping through limestone in the old cellar when the pub is not too busy.
Opening Times ⏰
- Tuesday to Thursday: 15:00 - 21:00
- Friday to Sunday: Open (specific times not listed but generally open all day Sunday)
- Note: The pub is open seven days a week according to some sources, but precise weekday times beyond Tuesday to Thursday are less clear and could be confirmed directly with the pub via phone or email.
