Down on the Farm Motorhome Aire — CAMpRA Aire on the Buchan Coastal Route, Aberdeenshire
📍 Milestone House, Rosehearty, Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire, AB43 6JY
About this Motorhome Stop
Perched on the dramatic north-east coast of Aberdeenshire, Down on the Farm is a full CAMpRA-certified motorhome aire on a working 200-acre beef farm. The large hardstanding area accommodates vehicles of all sizes, the service point covers fresh water and rubbish disposal, and owners Matthew and Carole offer a genuinely warm and personal welcome. At £10 a night, it delivers exceptional value for a properly certified site on one of Scotland’s most spectacular and underrated coastlines.
The farm sits directly on the Buchan Coastal Route (B9031) and the North East 250 touring route, making it a natural stop for anyone exploring Scotland’s east coast. The pretty village of Rosehearty is 1.5 miles away, and Fraserburgh — with supermarkets, restaurants and Scotland’s oldest working lighthouse — is 5 miles east. Dogs are welcome on leads. Pitches can be booked in advance or you can simply arrive unannounced — both are equally welcome.
The farm also runs guided Cow and Coast tours that have attracted extraordinary reviews — walking among the herd, exploring the dramatic clifftop coastline, and finishing with tea and homemade treats. A uniquely Scottish experience that makes this much more than just a place to park for the night.

Things to Do Nearby (Within 5 Miles)
A sweeping, often deserted sandy bay with sea cliffs and a picturesque small harbour, just 1.5 miles from the farm. The beach is backed by wildflower-rich grassland, and a circular cliff-top walk takes in sea arches, stacks and seasonal seabird colonies. Free. Approx. 1.5 miles.
Kinnaird Head Lighthouse was the very first lighthouse built by the Commissioners of Northern Lighthouses in 1787 — now home to Scotland’s Museum of Scottish Lighthouses, one of the most atmospheric maritime heritage attractions in the country. Rated 4.5 on TripAdvisor. Entry charges apply. Approx. 5 miles east.
The impossibly picturesque village of Pennan — used as the filming location for the 1983 film Local Hero — clings to the base of towering red sandstone cliffs. The coastal walk along the Buchan cliffs from Rosehearty towards Pennan is dramatic and largely unvisited. Approx. 4 miles west.
The romantic ruin of Pitsligo Castle — a 15th-century tower house expanded into a substantial laird’s residence — sits just a mile inland from Rosehearty. The remains are freely accessible and provide a photogenic backdrop with the great hall and tower clearly legible. Free. Approx. 1 mile.
A dramatic headland of columnar basalt with the largest mainland gannet colony in Scotland — around 1,600 pairs nest on the cliff ledges from March to August. Views along the Moray Firth are extraordinary, and bottlenose dolphins are frequently spotted below. Free. Approx. 4 miles east.
